A few months bag, Antoine and Naude were joined by Naude's sister Lindi who was documenting the day out on patrol at Pelican Point. They caught 6 seals for the day, and the one in the video was the 3rd for the morning.
They saw this little guy from quite far off, wearing his bring plastic collar. Whenever it is sunny out there, entanglements like this stand out much better, and makes the animals easier to see.
After sneaking up on him, Naude managed to grab the little Cape Fur Seal by hand, but asked Antoine to put the net over him because he was a lot stronger than anticipated. It was a quick move to cut loose the entanglement.
The material was clearly the handle part of a single use plastic shopping bag, and although it probably would not have been fatal for the seal, it surely didn't belong around his neck!
