The endless battleground that is carbs versus fats will endure long after both you and I are nothing more than dust, but at least we can apply some very general information to our diets when deciding whether to prioritize the consumption of one or the other.
Contrary to popular belief, fats and carbohydrates both have benefits, and they both have drawbacks as well. It's important to realize that, and that there will be significant costs associated with completely forgoing either nutrient.
Personally, I recommend setting protein, fats and carbs are around 20% each. After that is taken care of, that last 40% is sort of up to you. Don't fill it with alcohol, though. Not optimal. When dieting, you might need protein at 30% or even 40%. Still, there should be a fair amount of flexibility when making food choices, past that low 20% threshold, your body just uses it as energy so it doesn't matter all that much.
