The European Parliament this week approved the rules for the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Investigative Journalism while it debated how to better enforce the rule of law aimed at protecting journalists. Named after a murdered Maltese investigative journalist, the award supports reporters who play a role in enforcing transparency and accountability among officials. That’s one reason the EPP Group supports creating an EU-wide mechanism to monitor the rule of law, democracy and fundamental rights in every Member State.
