Here's an outstanding pedal for you - the wonderful Fire Bottle from Effectrode! At its heart is a NOS subminiature tube that's running with 'proper' plate voltages...none of that low-voltage starved nonsense here! The Fire Bottle provides 30dB of clean boost to hoof the front end of your tube amp into submission - whilst sporting a tone control borrowed from old Fender designs to really fine-tune the sweet spot of your frequencies.
But the secret weapon of this pedal is the 'Vari-Z' switch - designed to alter the input impedance and lower the resonant peak of single coil pickups to sound more humbucker-like; perfect for shelving off some of the aggressive upper frequencies before firing them hard into your amp's preamp section.
What do you think? One of the best boosts ever made? Or not for you? Comment below!
Guitar is a Fender Strat with Fralin Real '54 pickups, recorded through a Hughes & Kettner Puretone (Fane AlNiCo A60; Aston Spirit Condenser and '70s Sennheiser MD441) and a Dr Z DB4 (Celestion AlNiCo Cream; sE RNR1 ribbon) with a Schoeps CMC6 room mic.
