🏺 Pottery as a craft is widely known nowadays as a therapeutic activity for non-professional and as a craft that's forced to adapt and innovate in the technological era. What you might not know is that pottery is one of the oldest human inventions, originally from the Neolithic period (29,000–25,000 BC), and can be divided into three main groups: earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain.
🎬 The documentary is focusing on earthenware black pottery, where Corneliu Magopăț, a potter from northern-east Romania is talking about the secrets of black pottery, as well as how the craft has been passed on from generations to generations in the village of Marginea, currently reaching its 6th generation. A few decades ago, there were about 60 families of potters from which only three were able to prolong this ancient art.
The history of pottery makes this ancient form of modeling clay one of very few available forms of tracking back humanity from the prehistoric era, part of past pre-literate cultures.
